TITLE: Smoothing Large Meshes
ABSTRACT
Surface data acquired through range scanning typically requires
smoothing to remove measurement noise. We present a novel smoothing
algorithm based on the method of moving least squares (MLS).
The algorithm allows control over the degree of smoothing, is
non-iterative, and is suitable for use on either point sets or meshes.
In addition to being simple to implement, the algorithm offers greater
scalability than previously proposed smoothing algorithms, allowing it
to smooth surfaces efficiently with point counts in the hundreds of
millions.
