ABSTRACT
The Center for Simulation of Advanced Rockets (CSAR) is a large
($4.5M/year), multi-disciplinary project at the University of Illinois
at Urbana-Champaign funded by the U.S. Department of Energy. Its major
goals are (1) integrated simulation of solid propellant rocket motors
from first principles, (2) advancing the state of the art in
computational simulation of multi-component systems, and (3) training a
new generation of computational scientists and engineers. In this talk
we give an overview of the research and development activities at CSAR
and highlight some of the key research accomplishments in CSAR's eight
year history, with special emphasis on the interplay among the various
disciplines represented.
