The Department of Bioengineering (BIOE) offers a CSE Option in the Ph.D. degree program. Students electing the CSE Option are expected to satisfy all regular requirements for graduate study in BIOE. A student will normally be able to satisfy the requirements for the CSE Option by taking elective courses within the BIOE graduate program.
For the Ph.D. in BIOE with the CSE Option, the following additional requirements must be satisfied: the student must take two courses from the CSE core list or CS 411 – Database Systems, plus two additional approved computational courses in BIOE. The Ph.D. thesis must have a significant computational component as well as being relevant to bioengineering. The major advisor must be a CSE-affiliated faculty member, and the thesis committee must include at least one additional CSE-affiliated faculty member from a home department other than BIOE (but who may be an affiliate of BIOE).
